As a Project Manager at WSP in the PMCM Rail team you will be responsible for enabling the delivery of complex rail projects of regional, national, and international significance. You will ensure that the projects are delivered safely to a high-quality, in a timely manner, and compliant with budget.
Your Role
Our Project Managers are adaptable individuals with an innovative mindset, willing to take on new challenges and comfortable working on significant and complex projects embedded into the client’s team. We collaborate with internal multi-disciplinary project teams and use WSP offices, client offices and/or site locations to deliver programmes of strategic regional and national importance. Responsibilities
* Coordinate relevant disciplines through project meetings and target-led workshops to resolve critical issues and ensure safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance.
* Establish robust processes and procedures to manage the project with the client’s team.
* Act as the primary point of contact for the client, ensuring their needs are met during design and construction.
* Develop and manage client and stakeholder relationships through effective listening and influencing skills.
* Compile monthly project reports and data-based scenarios to provide senior managers with project clarity.
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local authorities, and community groups.
* Facilitate regular project meetings, presentations, and progress reports; address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations.
* Manage contracts in accordance with contract rules of engagement (including NEC3 & 4).
* Manage project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, and reporting; optimise resource utilisation and ensure financial performance aligns with project goals.
* Review and approve project expenditures and invoices; manage changes and delays and drive continuous process improvement (e.g., change control).
* Identify and mitigate risks associated with design and construction; establish risk mitigation measures.
* Handle RFIs, early warnings, and general communications to reduce project risk and support delivery.
* Act as a safety leader, drive safety performance and compliance with CDM regulations; discharge CDM duties as required by the client.
* Ensure activities are conducted safely and environmentally responsibly, aligned with governance and standards.
* Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with client and stakeholders.
* Collaborate with planners to develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resources, and risk management.
* Oversee project execution, ensure adherence to plans and schedules; monitor progress and implement corrective actions.
* Drive innovative design and construction solutions; evaluate and integrate new technologies to improve performance.
What We Will Be Looking For
* A degree in a relevant engineering or management discipline (e.g., project or construction management, engineering, science, or building).
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, or nearing completion of this status is advantageous.
* APM / MSP / PMI / PRINCE2 / Six Sigma certifications are beneficial.
* Experience managing NEC3/4 contracts.
* Experience in project management, including technical and project controls.
* Experience on significant projects with client-side delivery (design and build).
* Experience with organisations such as Transport for Wales, Network Rail, and other rail-related entities is advantageous.
* Proven ability to manage workstreams within a multi-disciplinary delivery team.
* Demonstrates curiosity, is solution-focused, and responsive to client issues.
