We support infrastructure managers, contractors, and rail operators by delivering training and professional services that prioritise safety, quality, and operational excellence.
The Role
We are seeking a Training and Competence Specialist – Rail Operations to join our growing team. This role will deliver high-quality training, assessment, and assurance services across AMC’s rail operations portfolio. You will ensure that client operational staff are trained, assessed, and deemed competent in line with statutory requirements, industry standards, and client-specific frameworks — or provided with clear feedback and development actions where competence has not yet been achieved.
The role also contributes to the design and continuous improvement of training materials, assessment methods, and competence management systems, as well as supporting clients with innovation, regulatory compliance, and workforce optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver tailored training programmes, ensuring compliance with rail safety, operational, and technical standards.
* Conduct workplace assessments of safety-critical staff and provide structured feedback.
* Deliver learning support, mentoring, and coaching to embed competence and improve performance.
* Support clients with competence frameworks, audits, and improvement plans.
* Work with clients to introduce innovation, new technology, and operational improvements that drive safety and efficiency.
* Ensure training and assessment align with statutory regulations (RSA, ROGS, ORR, RSSB).
* Embed AMC’s SHEQ standards into all activities and participate in audits.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of AMC training, simulations, and digital learning tools.
* Maintain personal competence and take ownership of professional development.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience delivering rail training and workplace assessments.
* Strong knowledge of safety-critical competence standards.
* Experience with competence management systems and assurance frameworks.
* Excellent communication, presentation, coaching, and mentoring skills.
* Ability to engage confidently with operational staff, clients, and regulators.
Qualifications
* Qualified Trainer (Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent).
* Qualified Assessor (A1, TAQA, or equivalent).
* Relevant railway operational qualifications and safety-critical competence.
Personal Attributes
* Safety-first mindset with attention to detail.
* Professional, credible, and confident in front of learners and clients.
* Adaptable to different operational environments.
* Collaborative and aligned to AMC’s values of safety, professionalism, and trust.
Why Join AMC?
* Be part of a industry-recognised training provider.
* Work across a diverse client base in NI, ROI, and GB.
* Contribute to shaping safety, competence, and innovation in the rail industry.
* Opportunities for CPD and professional growth within a supportive team culture.
