Job Title: Reserves Officer

Salary: £25,626.12 - £32,729.88 per annum

Service: Community and Leisure

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: Beech Hurst, Andover

Contract: Permanent

Are you enthusiastic about wildlife conservation, committed to encouraging responsible access to the countryside, want a job where you can work outside and no two days are the same, then this could be the role for you. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an aspiring or existing conservation professional to join our dynamic Countryside Team within the Community and Leisure Service.

As a Reserves Officer you will carry out day to day management across our nature reserves and countryside sites throughout the borough. Working alongside colleagues and an apprentice you will have the opportunity to work across a range of habitats including, chalk grassland, water meadows, wet woodland and ancient semi natural woodland to name a few.

The position calls for a knowledge and understanding of ecological issues, legislation and policies as well as the ability to implement and monitor the effects of site management plans and complete risk assessments and site inspections. You will be confident dealing with contractors and happy to manage our livestock which graze some of our sites.

Your ecological knowledge will be matched with your enthusiasm and commitment to lead practical volunteer work parties with a dedicated group of volunteers, as well as the community and inspire schools, universities and the public on the importance of nature conservation.

To be successful you will need to be a confident communicator, and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of practical terrestrial and aquatic habitat management, ecological surveys and experience of leading volunteer and school groups. Opportunities are available to participate in surveys for European protected species, including dormice and great crested newt, so previous experience is desirable.

Test Valley itself is set in the beautiful county of Hampshire, spanning from just north of Andover to Chandlers Ford. The main town centres, Andover and Romsey, are surrounded by countryside and villages.

You will receive a competitive salary (determined through a competencies framework), and a great place to work with supportive colleagues. The Council actively promotes a good work/life balance, including agile working practices and flexible working hours. We encourage continuous learning and development and have a programme of events designed to support employee wellbeing.
