The role
Reporting to the Executive Director of Governance & Risk, you’ll lead the Governance Team and take ownership of governance, risk and compliance across the group.
You’ll work closely with our Boards, Committees, Executive and Leadership Teams to ensure robust governance arrangements, effective risk management and strong regulatory assurance — both now and into the future.
This role is about more than process. It’s about creating confidence, accountability and clarity in how we make decisions and manage risk across a regulated housing group.
What you’ll do
* Lead and continuously improve the group’s governance framework, policies and procedures
* Manage and support Board, Committee and Leadership Team meetings, ensuring high‑quality papers, accurate decisions and effective follow‑up
* Oversee governance effectiveness reviews and support strong, accountable oversight
* Develop and maintain the group’s risk management approach, risk register and assurance mapping
* Provide clear, timely risk and governance reporting to Boards and senior leaders
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (including RSH, Charity Commission, Companies House, FCA and Ofgem)
* Lead, develop and motivate the Governance Team, setting high standards and fostering continuous improvement
* Act as a trusted governance adviser, building strong relationships across the organisation
What you’ll bring
Essential
* Significant experience in governance, risk and compliance within a regulated or complex organisation
* Proven experience working with Boards and Committees at a senior level
* Strong leadership and people‑management skills
* Excellent drafting, communication and influencing skills
* Ability to interpret regulation and translate it into practical solutions
* A thorough, organised approach with strong attention to detail
* Resilience, flexibility and a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset
Desirable
* Full or part qualification in governance and/or risk (e.g. CGI)
* Knowledge of housing regulation
* Experience with the Charity Commission, FCA or similar regulators
