Barts Health is currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team at Whipps Cross Hospital as a Medical Secretary.
As a Medical Secretary in Ophthalmology, you will play a crucial role in providing administrative support to medical professionals. You will have the opportunity to contribute to delivering exceptional patient care and maintaining high standards within the dynamic environment of Whipps Cross Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of this post is to actively manage the administrative processes of patient pathways, ensuring a smooth and efficient service for patients throughout their treatment by the Trust. Also to ensure and participate in providing an effective administration service to the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Educated to A-level standard or equivalent qualification.
2. AMSPAR or equivalent e.g. a good level of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
3. City & Guilds Administration qualification or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
4. Relevant experience in medical secretarial/pathway administration experience
5. Ability to provide support to junior staff
Desirable criteria
6. Experience in the use of NHS databases’ such as Cerner
Knowledge
Essential criteria
7. Knowledge of a patient administration system or other similar system
8. Knowledge of national targets with respect to the patient pathway.
9. A sound knowledge and demonstrable competence re 18 week referral to treatment rules

10. Excellent working knowledge of windows applications including word, outlook and excel
11. Methodical and logical approach to work prioritisation and planning
12. Pro-active with the ability to use own initiative
13. Able to monitor quality of own work and others
14. Ability to communicate complicated data to other organisations and more senior managers
