Job Summary

Part time 7.5 hours per week – Senior Clinical Support worker

Band 4 – Wandsworth HOS-AR Service

About the Role

The Wandsworth Community Respiratory team delivers a range of services within the diverse London Borough of Wandsworth in a variety of settings. The team is made up of respiratory nurses, physiotherapists and healthcare assistants.

We are seeking a motivated, caring and dynamic Senior Support worker to work as a key member of our team supporting patients on the Home Oxygen Service (HO‑SAR). The role will be diverse and centred within the respiratory service.

You must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).


Responsibilities

This role involves seeing complex respiratory patients in a range of settings including community sites, patients’ homes and community clinics.

* Autonomously manage your own caseload of patients performing capillary blood gases, fire risk assessments and providing support and cover for other clinicians within the team.
* Receive structured clinical supervision from a local Respiratory Consultant and support through team meetings, shared learning and reflective practice.
* Attendance at regular 1:1 meetings with the team lead to support your role.
* Maintain excellent communication skills, good time management, basic IT proficiency and willingness to learn new skills.


Person Specification


Qualifications (Essential)

* GCSEs Grade A–C in Maths and English or equivalent.
* Specialist specific modules or a willingness to undertake further training in these areas.


Desirable Qualifications

* Certified smoking Cessation facilitator.
* ARTP Competency in place.
* National teaching inhaler technique.
* Working at Associate Practitioner/Nursing Associate level.


Experience (Essential)

* Previous experience working within a health / care setting in the relevant area.
* Experience working self‑directed or as part of a team.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* 2 years experience in managing/supporting long‑term conditions.
* Experience working independently including managing own caseload under supervision.


Desirable Experience

* Specialist experience in respiratory.
* Previous participation in a specialist service.


Skills (Essential)

* Relevant clinical skills in the area of work.
* Able to recognise own limitations in the context of the support worker role.
* Knowledge of when to seek advice and to escalate to an appropriate registered health or care professional.
* IT awareness and ability to use NHS systems.


Desirable Skills

* Experience of using clinical systems (RiO, EMIS, System One).


Other Essential

* Hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
