Teach Now is seeking a confident, reliable and hands-on School Premises Manager to take full responsibility for the smooth, safe and compliant running of a friendly primary school in Hackney. This role is ideal for an experienced Premises Manager, Site Manager or Caretaker who thrives working independently and enjoys maintaining a high-quality learning environment for children and staff.
About the Role
In this split-shift position, you will oversee all aspects of the school site, ensuring it is clean, secure and fully operational on a daily basis. You will be the go-to person for maintenance, health and safety compliance, contractor management and emergency response, playing an essential part in keeping the school running safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
• Site & Building Management
• Opening and locking up the school each day
• Ensuring the security of the premises and monitoring visitor access
• Carrying out regular building inspections and identifying issues
• Managing and supporting cleaning staff to maintain excellent hygiene standards
• Responding urgently to leaks, blockages, hazards or repairs
Health & Safety Compliance
• Completing and updating risk assessments
• Conducting fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks and maintaining evacuation procedures
• Carrying out legionella flushing and temperature checks
• Maintaining statutory logs, records and ensuring full compliance with regulations
• Safe handling and storage of materials (COSHH)
Maintenance & Repairs
• Performing basic plumbing, electrical work and general site maintenance
• Maintaining equipment, fixtures, furniture and outdoor spaces
• Overseeing contractors, monitoring on-site works and ensuring high-quality outcomes
General Site Duties
• Setting up halls and rooms for assemblies and events
• Managing deliveries, stock and supplies
• Ensuring the site remains clean, organised and fully functional
Requirements
• Previous premises, site management or caretaking experience in a school setting
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, fire safety and legionella requirements
• Confident with basic DIY, plumbing and electrical tasks
• Highly organised, proactive and able to work independently
• Strong communication skills
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain

• Fire Marshal Training
• First Aid (Adult/Paediatric)
• Manual Handling
• COSHH Awareness
• Health & Safety Level 2/3
• NEBOSH (advantageous but not essential)
