Offer description

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.

Here in Swindon we understand what matters to our residents: an affordable home, good education, job opportunities and quality of life in a great location, as one of the UK’s fastest growing towns.

That is why we are working with partners to deliver our ambitious vision for Swindon so that the borough continues to thrive in the future and benefits from well-managed growth, investment and regeneration.

The Corporate Projects team are a friendly, supportive team, where opportunities for cross skilling and personal development are actively encouraged. There has never been a better time to join our team to take an active role in supporting the organisation in achieving its transformational goals.

Our aim is to work in partnership with the organisation to support the Council’s widely publicised Swindon Plan, whilst ensuring that each project delivers the predicted benefits on time and within budget, generating exceptional value to the Council.

Your next role

As a Programme Manager, your responsibilities will include the coordination of projects associated with the programme, managing risks, issues and interdependencies and ensuring that any significant risks and issues are escalated to the Corporate Sponsor. This will involve supporting meetings and governance of the programme and working with officers across the council to motivate transformation and change.

Maintaining good communications and relations with the programme leadership team is essential and will require the post holder to provide project updates and advice to the Sponsor at regular intervals.

The post holder will support the delivery and management of the council’s Transformation Programme which will involve working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation.

They will also be expected to recognise and capture intrinsic links between the Transformation Programme and aforementioned Swindon Plan.

You must have a proven track record of delivering and supporting complex programmes, and be able to demonstrate the use of robust project methodologies and tools to support delivery through transformational change and how you positively supported this change.

It’s imperative that you show how you establish and maintain working relationships at all levels of the organisation, whilst demonstrating excellent people skills to drive programme delivery which support in achieving our organisational outcomes.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark in a challenging role, allowing you to bring your programme management skills and experience to an organisation that really makes a difference to the lives of the residents of Swindon.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
