Overview
We’re on the lookout for someone who is willing to learn how to provide arboricultural advice to our clients about trees and development. This role may suit a university graduate or someone looking for a change in career. This will initially be an internal facing, supporting role but with experience and demonstrated proficiency will progress to be more client facing, to involve advising on aspects of BS5837 consultancy and arboricultural planning.
Operating across a range of sectors from residential, commercial and renewables (typically solar), larger infrastructure projects and estate management, your role will involve navigating through online data searches, arboricultural planning policy, and captured BS5837 Tree Quality Survey data, whilst ensuring your survey findings and development design recommendations get the spotlight at project team meetings.
With full and reactive support from the wider team between office bases, you will be leading on field work and the preparation of planning documents from Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Method Statements, statutory tree works applications and site promotion and feasibility inputs, learning and observing expertise from the team as you enhance your skills and knowledge here at TG.
This role will be based out of one of our offices in Manchester, Birmingham, or London, with hybrid working requiring 2-3 days a week in the office.
What the Role will include
* Conduct tree surveys to BS5837:2012 Tree in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction.
* Work with the arboricultural team to deliver comprehensive reports, including Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Arboricultural Method Statements, meeting client requirements and timeframes.
* Provide technical arboricultural solutions for proposed development design and constraints with respect to retaining, protecting and enhancing the local natural and built environment.
* Coordinate with other environmental disciplines (in-house and external) such as Ecology, Landscape Architecture, and Green & Blue Infrastructure and Landscape Design.
* Contribute to new ideas, innovations, and internal resources, and learn from the team as part of project workloads.
* Travel across the UK for internal events, surveys, or volunteering opportunities.
* Engage in volunteering and extracurricular activities from various office locations.
* Visit other office locations with paid travel expenses to engage with the wider team.
* Participate in quarterly all-company gatherings (typically at the central Birmingham Office).
We’re looking for an Arboricultural Consultant who
* Has an awareness of BS5837:2012
* Holds an academic qualification in arboriculture or a similar environmental discipline (level 3 or above)
* Is open to obtaining a technician (or higher) membership with the Arboricultural Association
* Has an interest in the technical side of arboriculture in the context of the UK planning system
* Enjoys building relationships with team members, clients and networking across the industry
* Is proactive and solution-focused, always willing to give something a go
* Can take on projects and work independently, or as part of the wider landscape and multi-disciplinary teams
* Has proficient verbal and written communication skills
* Has good organization and time management skills
* Site visits and survey work in all weathers form part of the role, sometimes in remote locations; a Full UK driving license (with business insurance) is essential

* Is willing to commit 3 days a week in the office during the first 2 months, then 2 days a week thereafter

Salary: £25,400 (plus Higher Cost of Living Allowance for London, £3,000 annually)
