Location: Register Officer, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 1UZ, On‑site working.
Salary: £28,598 per annum (pro rata).
Hours: Post 1: 29 hours per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; Post 2: 15 hours per week on Wednesday and Friday.
Contract: Permanent.
Your role and responsibilities
* Taking phone calls from members of the public, responding to questions, booking appointments and ceremonies, issuing certificates and carrying out searches of historic records—including handling financial transactions, working with secure stock, and maintaining records.
* Greeting and directing visitors to the office, responding to enquiries in writing, and directing people to online digital channels.
* Mentoring and training less experienced colleagues and deputising for more senior staff when required.
You will need
* Ability to work effectively to agreed deadlines and produce accurate work with a high level of attention to detail.
* Strong communication and customer‑service skills, with the capacity to handle customers who may be experiencing heightened emotions in a sensitive and professional manner.
* A willingness to learn and develop, and to apply existing skills, knowledge and experience positively within the role.
* Education to level 3 standard or clear evidence of an equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
