Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse on our Coronary Care/ Cardiology Ward at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a motivated cardiology nurse with significant cardiology experience to undertake this Band 6 position


Main duties of the job

To work with the existing senior nursing team to ensure that both the cardiology ward and Coronary Care Unit have effective visible leadership, and maintain excellent care standards to our patients and families

The successful candidate will possess excellent organisation, communication, decision making and motivational skills and will be a positive role model to other members of staff.


Working for our organisation

We employ more than 6,500 staffwho deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals,Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, healthcentres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation.Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS– yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You must have significant experience in caring for patients with cardiology conditions, be able to interpret ECG's and manage acutely deteriorating patients, along with prioritising patient care, and supporting the patient journey.

You will be expected to manage the ward on a shiftly basis and liaise with the wider cardiology team.

You will be expected to support the senior team with management of incidents, complaints and ensuring that the base is safe

Qualifications/Training

* Teaching/Mentoring Certificate / skills
* Post registration education in relevant specialty
* Other Post Basic Qualification
* Working towards appropriate degree.


Knowledge, experience & expertise

* Experience as a band 5 within acute nursing environment for 3 years or 2 in cardiology
* Responsible for own post basic education. To meet the requirements of the service and PREP
* Recruitment and selection
* Knowledge of future provision of services


Communication & relationships

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to foster multi-disciplinary working.
* Works within budgetary parameters

You may be required to undertake a DBS. The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £54.40, Standard £26.40 or Basic £26.40) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £16 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
