The Role:
The Project Finance & Controls Manager role offers an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile programme within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, supporting the delivery of complex and strategically important projects. The position provides broad exposure across programme finance, operational controls, customer engagement, and performance management, while working alongside experienced stakeholders across Finance, PMO, and Programme teams.
The Project Finance & Controls Manager will be responsible for Finance Business Operational Control within a new programme. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of contract obligations, financial reporting, and programme performance management within complex project environments.
The role will interface regularly with the customer, supporting the effective management of billing activities, CDRLs, KPIs, proposals, amendments, and wider programme financial controls. Responsibilities will also include supporting Earned Value Management (EVM), financial performance reporting, forecasting, and operational control activities across NSS and Space programmes, working closely with the PMO and wider programme teams to drive successful delivery and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage programme billing activities and support accurate and timely financial reporting
2. Support customer change management activities, including pricing analysis and proposal support
3. Manage and maintain the Customer Finance Model (CFM)
4. Support Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting and programme performance analysis
5. Monitor and track programme KPIs and financial metrics
6. Support forecasting and financial planning activities across the programme lifecycle
7. Track programme rates and support financial variance analysis
8. Support hedging activities and associated financial controls
9. Work collaboratively with PMO, Finance, and Programme teams to support operational and commercial objectives
Required skills, qualifications and experience
10. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills
11. Advanced MS Office capability, particularly within Excel
12. Experience in financial control, forecasting, and performance reporting within complex programme environments
13. Contract and sub-contract management experience
14. Working knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM)
15. Experience in project cost control and programme performance reporting
16. Strong analytical capability with excellent attention to detail
17. Ability to work effectively across cross-functional and customer-facing environments
Desired Skills
18. Defence and Space industry experience
19. Experience working directly with customers and external stakeholders
20. Knowledge of standard costing methodologies
