Autism Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are looking for the ideal candidate to join our team as an Autism Support Assistant in aspirational, caring and supportive schools across the Tameside area. This role has the potential to become a long-term opportunity through consistently building strong relationships with children who have additional needs on a 1:1 basis. As an Autism Support Assistant, you may be utilised across EYFS and KS1, depending on the needs of the children and where support is needed within the school.

Location: Tameside

Job Type: Full-time, 8.15am-3.30pm (long-term opportunity)

Salary: £13.75- £14.50 per hour

Start date: Monday 6th October 2025

The Role:

* You will be expected to create positive relationships with pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities and encourage positive choices and behaviour.
* Work closely and collaboratively with the Class Teacher and SENCO to implement and adapt learning strategies, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
* Monitor pupil progress and contribute to regular reviews of their Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with ASC, focusing on communication, emotional regulation and sensory needs.
* Support learning in a small group and 1:1 basis during Continuous Provision/ KS1 Curriculum and teaching of Maths, Phonics and Writing.

What We’re Looking For:

* Experience working with children or young people with Autism is essential (EYFS/KS1 experience is desirable but not essential).
* A calm, caring and consistent approach, with excellent, clear communication skills (verbal and non-verbal).
* Resilience and adaptability to meet children’s changing needs throughout the school day.
* A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
* Any training in Team Teach, SEND, SALT, Communication and language, Keys to Communication or Autism (or similar) is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
