Support your local community by joining Essex County Council's School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at St John's Green Primary School, Colchester. This role involves supporting schools in the morning and afternoon, ensuring the safety of pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and surrounding areas.
We are looking for a punctual, reliable, approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public. The position is approximately 7.5 hours per week, with a holiday pay element included. You must be available during the 39 weeks of the academic year, working for about 45 minutes in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and 45 minutes in the afternoon (14:45 - 15:45), depending on individual site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities:
1. Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired pedestrians using the crossing.
2. Maintain contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
3. Assess risks associated with operating at the crossing site regularly, report problems and defects to your supervisor.
4. Assist in preparing reports on accidents, failure to stop incidents, and other occurrences at the crossing site.
5. Keep all uniform and equipment in good condition and request replacements when needed.
6. Give clear signals to drivers to stop traffic and ensure the road is clear of pedestrians before allowing crossing.
