Diagnostic Neuroradiologist

The Imaging Department is part of CDG11 within the Trust management structure incorporating Radiology & Medical Physics, Critical Care & Outreach, Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacy, Theatres, Surgical Admission, Anaesthetics & Pre‑op and Pain Management.

Individual Consultants also provide a lead role in areas of sub‑specialist interest where they coordinate service delivery and modernisation initiatives as well as ensuring service developments are introduced effectively within their areas. The Subspecialty Clinical Service Lead for Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology is Dr Saleh Lamin.

The Trust has a Philips PACS with Voice Recognition capability.

The Imaging Department at UHB offers a comprehensive range of high specification imaging equipment including:

* 17 MRI scanners including a wide bore 1.5 Tesla and three 3 Tesla machines (the ITM 3 Tesla scanner being dedicated for research)
* 13 CT scanners
* Dedicated Neuroradiology biplane Angiography Suite. There funding in place for a second Neuroradiology biplane angiography suit to support mechanical thrombectomy expansion.


Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for 3 full‑time Consultant Neuroradiologists (diagnostic) to join the existing team of more than 80 Consultant Radiologists in post across UHB including 15 Neuroradiologists. This post is based at the QEHB site. However successful applicants are expected to perform cross‑site duties.

The successful applicant will be expected to join our team of enthusiastic Consultants to contribute to the increasing workload of the department which has been driven upwards by a combination of service expansion, stroke, cancer pathway driven targets and multidisciplinary meeting attendance. This post offers the opportunity to work closely with Neurology and Neurosurgical Consultant colleagues in providing a cross‑specialty comprehensive diagnostic and interventional service to in‑ and out‑patients and also direct access primary care referrals. This post is not suitable for a candidate who wishes to work across multiple subspecialties. You will be expected to contribute to the acute neuroradiology cross‑sectional reporting requirements of the department across all sites of the trust and expected to be flexible to meet these evolving needs including contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings. The post holders are expected to support the training of SpRs and Fellows.

Job responsibilities


Leadership & Governance

* Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available.
* Helps manage demand and prioritises based on clinical need as required.
* Demonstrates excellence in patient care quality.
* To cross‑cover for other radiologists as required during time of leave in order to maintain safe service.
* Support managing different aspects of the department as required.
* Participate in departmental meetings including the department real meeting.


Interpersonal and Communication Skills

* The post holder must be willing to join an established collaborative department which involves working closely with radiological colleagues to provide a comprehensive and cohesive service.
* Contribute to the design and implementation of imaging service by applying the latest evidence and delivering high quality patient care.
* Have excellent radiology report writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues. To develop and maintain effective networks within the region enabling best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust.
* The post holder must have well‑developed listening and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust.


Planning and organising

* Be willing to be involved with and implement a comprehensive Neuroradiology imaging service encompassing multiple modalities.
* Contribute to the discussion on the future development of general imaging services within the department.
* Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement.
* Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement.
* Support the department in achieving its financial and performance targets.


Administrative support

Office space and shared administrative support will be provided.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development including CME
