Dorset County Hospital is recruiting a registered nurse to work with Dorset's Lung Cancer Screening Service
The service is a Lung cancer screening programme which invites participants aged between 55 - 74 years old who either smoke currently or have smoked previously for a lung health check.
The NHS long term plan published in 2019 established a plan to diagnose 75% of people with cancer at an early stage by 2028, and this post will support the setting up and implementing of a lung health screening programme across Dorset.
This is a pivotal role, and will support the team to establish a pan Dorset wide Lung Cancer Screening by providing administrative support.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include:
* Assessing participants eligibility to carry out the national risk assessment
* Clearly explaining the process of the programme to patients in a way that they can understand
* The post holder will work within a small team. You will be managing the participant list and will need to maintain accurate records within Excel and Trust wide systems.
* Communicate with patients to deal with all enquiries regarding their appointment times and procedural issues and ensure that patients understand the information they are given regarding preparation for diagnostic tests or procedures and understand the importance of accepting the earliest diagnostic appointment offered.
* The post holder will work closely with the Lung Cancer Screening team and nurses to ensure that clinical patient queries are dealt with by the clinical team.
* Liaising with the responsible Radiologist, Consultants and Lead Nurse and Co-ordinators to ensure patients are on the correct pathway for follow ups.
* Maintaining and updating personal data on patient tracker lists.
* Requesting CT scans appropriately.
* Referring relevant participants to the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist team.
* Documenting findings and escalating appropriately.

Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse / Nursing Degree
* Evidence of relevant post qualification study at postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Nurse – Minimum 3 years at Band 5 in the relevant setting
* Evidence of working independently
* Participating in audit/patient surveys
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary team
* Awareness of relevant national and Local targets / NSF Frameworks
