Construction Manager (Build) role at Balfour Beatty plc
We are part of the delivery team for HS2, the UK’s flagship high-speed rail programme, and we are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our Regional Buildings team. You will support the delivery of five reinforced concrete buildings housing critical MEP plant infrastructure along the route. These highly engineered buildings form an integral part of HS2’s operational systems and represent a blend of heavy civil engineering and complex building construction.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and technically strong professional with a background in reinforced concrete structures, commercial buildings, or RC frame delivery to play a leading part in one of the UK’s most ambitious engineering projects.
Responsibilities
 * Managing day-to-day site operations for reinforced concrete and associated building works.
 * Leading and motivating construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to meet programme and quality milestones.
 * Coordinating with MEP and design teams to ensure interfaces are understood and planned effectively.
 * Overseeing temporary works, formwork, rebar, concrete pours, and finishing activities.
 * Driving a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all site activities.
 * Managing materials, logistics, plant, and sequencing to maintain programme momentum.
 * Monitoring cost and progress, reporting accurately to senior management.
 * Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty’s environmental and sustainability commitments.
 * Supporting junior engineers and supervisors, helping to build capability within the team.
Qualifications and Experience
 * Proven background managing reinforced concrete or structural frame projects — ideally within the building or infrastructure sectors.
 * Strong understanding of RC construction methods, reinforcement detailing, and formwork systems.
 * Experience managing MEP interface or integration works advantageous.
 * Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
 * Demonstrable commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice.
 * Strong commercial and planning awareness.
 * Relevant qualification in construction or civil engineering (HNC, HND, or Degree).
 * SMSTS and CSCS certification.
