First opening over a hundred years ago, our team at Whipps Cross have one of the busiest A&E departments in the country with more than 152,000 patients attending each year. Other departments are just as busy with over 77,000 inpatient stays and 381,000 outpatient appointments.
Main duties of the job
Works across acute Trust/ CCG settings, as an expert in clinical field to deliver specialist clinical services to defined patient/ client group. Provides specialist, interdisciplinary education and training to other staff and students. Works strategically to influence the development of the service both locally and nationally.
Leads clinical audits in own area. Participates in /facilitates/ undertakes research in specialist field.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (adult)
* Mentorship in practice or equivalent experience in supervising students or new starters
* Surgical care course at academic level 6 or above
* Working towards Masters degree or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience supervising or managing staff, including delegation of work and oversight of day-to-day staff performance
* Experience supporting staff development, including mentorship, supervision or informal teaching
Leadership & Supervision
* Experience of supervising or managing staff
* Evidence of negotiating and influencing to achieve service or team objectives and finding solutions to problems in challenging situations.
* Upholds and demonstrates leadership qualities including accountability for own and others decisions and actions.
* Evidence of promoting, monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security standards in the workplace.
* Roster management experience using e-rostering systems
* Staff management experience including appraisals or performance support
Service Improvement
* Experience contributing to service improvement, audit or quality initiatives, including implementation of changes to practice
* Experience leading a quality improvement initiative with measurable outcomes
Communication
* Communicating complex clinical or operational information to patients, relatives and multidisciplinary teams, including sensitive or difficult information
* Experience presenting information or delivering teaching to staff or groups
IT and Digital Systems
* Evidence of using Cerner or equivalent electronic patient record to review and document patient information
* Evidence of using Datix or equivalent electronic incident reporting systems to record and investigate incidents
* Evidence of using MS Office 360 to manage, analyse and present data
Other
* Experience of budget and financial management relevant to role responsibilities.
* Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles, and how these are applied in the workplace
