Service Area: Social Services Adults – Disabled Facilities Grant
Overview
Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking three experienced Grants Officers to support the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants and wider private sector housing improvements. You’ll manage grant applications from initial survey through to final payment, ensuring high‑quality service delivery, compliance, and excellent support to residents.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out initial grant surveys and complete detailed Property Condition Schedules.
* Advise the public on all aspects of the grants system.
* Prepare schedules of work, drawings, plans and obtain contractor estimates.
* Submit formal grant applications, including all supporting documentation.
* Assess applications, estimates and plans for eligibility and accuracy.
* Prepare and submit Building Control, Planning and other statutory approvals.
* Supervise works throughout the grant process, including interim and final payments.
* Promote the Grants Agency Service and identify suitable Block Repair Schemes.
* Maintain accurate records and grant management systems (including Flare).
* Assist in reviewing and developing grant policies and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations, H&S legislation and safeguarding requirements.
Requirements
Essential
* Minimum HNC in Building Construction or related discipline (or working towards).
* 2+ years’ post‑qualification experience in building construction or related area.
* Strong knowledge of service delivery to the public.
* Ability to work directly with residents, maintain concise records and communicate clearly.
* Good analytical skills and IT proficiency.
* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (casual user allowance applies).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Positive, motivated and sensitive to service users’ needs.
* Commitment to Equal Opportunities and safeguarding.
Desirable
* Degree in building, environmental health or related field.
* Knowledge of housing grants and private sector housing.
* CAD drawing skills.
* Membership of a relevant professional body.
* Ability to speak or learn Welsh.
