Environmental Health Officer
Midlothian Council, the fastest-growing local authority in Scotland, has a new opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our Public Health Environmental Protection Team as an Environmental Health Officer.
The successful candidate will undertake enforcement duties in accordance with the job description.
This role offers hybrid working, allowing the successful applicant to combine working from home and from the office.
Located less than 30 minutes from Edinburgh by road or rail, this position provides the chance to work in a beautiful rural setting within a friendly team of professionals on a diverse and rewarding workload.
Knowledge
Essential
* A degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and a postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) or equivalent. Applications from those sitting REHIS exams in Autumn 2025 will also be considered.
* Competency in assessment and enforcement related to Public Health and Environmental Protection statutory regimes.
* A driving licence and access to a car, as travel throughout the area is required.
Desirable
* Chartered Member of REHIS or working towards Chartered status.
* Additional relevant qualifications in a specialist field.
Experience
Essential
* Knowledge and experience in the relevant field, with a solid understanding of applicable statutory regulations.
Desirable
* Post-qualification experience in Environmental Health and familiarity with local government processes related to legislative matters.
