Our client is offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Software Architect, or a strong software designer ready to step into an architectural role. This position provides the chance to influence the design and delivery of cutting-edge defence systems at the forefront of technology.
Key Details:
* Salary: Up to £85,000 (depending on experience)
* Location: Stevenage
* Working Pattern: Hybrid, typically 3–4 days per week on-site
The Opportunity:
As a Software Architect, you will own the full software architecture, collaborating closely with delivery teams to define and oversee the Structural and Temporal Architecture of products. This includes managing both internal and external interfaces to ensure all requirements are met.
Key responsibilities include:
* Identifying and documenting design drivers such as performance, safety, security, reusability and flexibility
* Producing derived and emergent requirements, capturing assumptions and rationale
* Defining architecture to a level where implementation decisions do not compromise integrity
* Working with Architects, Technical Specialists and engineers across disciplines to support wider design activities
* Influencing software technology strategies, product lines, tools and methods to ensure long-term innovation
This role will expose you to technology at the forefront of European defence, enabling the development of safe, secure and reliable products that international customers depend on.

* A strong technical practitioner, comfortable making architectural and design decisions
* Knowledge of modern and established architecture techniques and design patterns
* Experience with model-based engineering
* Ability to mentor and clearly articulate software architecture to developers and stakeholders
* Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
* Advocacy for software engineering best practices such as continuous integration and good design
* Ability to weigh trade-offs between different architectural approaches with clear rationale
* Understanding of software abstraction layers and software stacks
* Experience influencing tools, frameworks and technologies
* Strong programming background, ideally with experience in multiple languages
