Forward Assist are working with a business who are on the lookout for an Assistant Engineering Manager — and this is one for the hands‑on leaders who know their way around a workshop and a team.

What’s the role?
You’ll be supporting the Engineering Manager in running a busy, high‑performing workshop, making sure everything runs smoothly, safely, and on time.
This is a role where you’re not just managing — you’re leading from the front, keeping standards high, and making sure vehicles are maintained, repaired, and ready to go when they need to be.
What you’ll be doing:
* Supporting the day‑to‑day running of the workshop
* Supervising and leading engineering teams on site
* Ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to spec
* Planning and allocating workloads to keep everything balanced and on track
* Working closely with the wider team to ensure on‑road performance targets are met
* Maintaining compliance with all regulatory and safety standards
* Acting as a key point of responsibility on site when required
What we’re looking for:
* Strong engineering background (HGV, plant, heavy vehicles or similar)
* Experience in maintenance, repair, and overhaul environments
* Previous leadership / supervisory experience or ready to step up
* Someone organised, proactive, and comfortable managing workload and people
* Relevant qualifications (apprenticeship, NVQ, diploma or similar in engineering)
👉 This role would suit ex‑military engineers (REME, Royal Engineers, RAF etc.) who are used to structured environments, leading teams, and maintaining high standards — but absolutely open to anyone with the right experience.
