Senior Highway Design Engineer (Outside IR35)
Location: Stockport
A leading UK engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Highway Design Engineer to support its expanding workload across major framework contracts and a diverse portfolio of clients and projects in the North West. This role is Outside IR35 and based in Stockport.
We are looking for qualified, chartered or incorporated engineers who are passionate about delivering high-quality design solutions. You will take responsibility for feasibility studies, detailed designs, scheme drawings, calculations, and the preparation of contract documents and specifications. The position also involves project planning, project management, monitoring progress, and maintaining close liaison with clients and contractors.
A strong understanding of the DMRB, LTN 1/20, and current design standards is essential. Experience with design software such as Civils 3D and/or MX is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver consistent, high-quality technical design services
Support, train, and mentor other team members
Maintain effective communication and liaison with clients
Report directly to the Highways Director
Work collaboratively with other discipline leads to ensure technical integration
Manage financial and commercial aspects of project delivery
Experience & Qualifications
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or working toward)
Minimum of 10 years’ practical experience in a highway design office
Strong experience in active travel scheme design
Proven track record working with Local Authorities
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of working with minimal supervision
Looking for increased levels of responsibility and leadership
