Job Summary
Our innovative model has been designed to: Allow GPs to spend more time on tasks only they can do, including specific types of patients, clinical and non-clinical administration, leadership functions, and clinical supervision of ACP Clinical Leads and medics/pharmacists.
* Improve our ability to segment patient care in a standardised way and identify how best to utilise our workforce in individual surgeries and across SPC surgeries
* Improve our ability to recruit and retain Salaried GPs in-practice and reduce our use of Locum GPs
* Improve our ability to recruit and retain experienced ACP Clinical Leads to support and develop the ACP Clinical Leadership model further, and to clinically supervise and develop ACP and Non-medical prescriber staff
* Improve our ability to recruit and retain ACPs and ANPs to sit under the ACP Clinical Leadership model, and be more supported to develop in their ACP and ANP roles and scope of competencies
* Future proof the SPC model standardisation of roles, processes and systems, centralisation of roles, resilient workforce, improved stewardship of SPC finances
* Ensure that the practice level leadership and/or management functions are covered by a clinician who is best placed to do so
Main duties of the job
Provide proactive and visible clinical leadership, supporting and guiding practice staff on quality and safety matters. Develop and embed robust clinical governance systems, ensuring active participation by all medical staff. Lead on clinical strategy, improvement planning, and quality assurance across the practice. Collaborate with Practice Management, PCNs, and SPC leads to drive service improvement and staff development. Oversee clinical quality and safety, ensuring best practice through NICE implementation, significant event reviews, and compliance with CQC standards. Jointly act as CQC Registered Manager and Caldicott Guardian for the practice. Coordinate practice education and supervision, ensuring clinical staff remain up to date with policy and guideline changes. Provide supervision for GPs and non-medical prescribers in line with SPCs Clinical Leadership Model.
About Us
We are a friendly, forward-thinking GP surgery with a supportive multidisciplinary team, including three GPs, an ACP Clinical Lead, ANP, Paramedic Practitioner, Prescribing Lead Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, supported by a nursing and admin team. We use SystmOne, offer 15-minute appointments, and provide two protected GP Clinical Lead admin sessions per week to support leadership, quality improvement and mentoring (pro rata). The practice is undergoing a period of transition with plans to implement total triage to improve patient access and streamline workflows. Job Description
Job responsibilities
* Clinical Leadership – Provide visible clinical leadership and be a point of contact for practice staff who need support and guidance over quality and safety concerns. May include a formal role in some staff appraisals.
* Develop clinical governance strategies, systems and processes with active participation by all medical staff.
* Lead the wider practice team with practice management, attend practice meetings, and support career development of clinical staff.
* Build relationships with SPC Safeguarding Lead, SPC Education Lead, Senior GP lead and ACP clinical leads from other SPC Practices to share learning and good practice.
* Lead on service improvement planning and balance quality/safety with organisational and financial considerations.
* Develop and maintain active working relationships with PCNs.
* Be responsible for leading on the clinical components of QOF/LCS and IIF; attend quality assurance and education meetings with other senior clinical lead GPs and the Medical Director for quality assurance; work in line with SPC Clinical Governance structure.
* Collaborate with practice management and ACP clinical lead as part of the practice executive team.
* Be responsible for clinical quality and safety, ensuring NICE guidance is embedded, with appropriate record keeping and handling Significant Event reviews and complaints.
* Be the joint CQC registered manager with the Practice Manager and lead on CQC readiness; act as Caldicott Guardian where required.
* Arrange practice education meetings and ensure staff are aware of changes to clinical guidelines and policy.
* Lead on ensuring that all areas of clinical leadership are covered within the practice per the SPC Clinical Leadership Model.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications
A medical practitioner listed on the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003; Accredited as a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or have 5 years experience as a full-time GP with a demonstrable commitment to quality practice; Currently on a performers list and not suspended; Enhanced DBS check; Evidence of continued professional development.
Skills and Knowledge
