Overview
We wish to appoint a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with an interest in General Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery and Trauma, and a subspecialty interest in Skin Cancer management. The post holder will undertake clinical commitments across Bay at the three sites and participate in the consultant on call rota, with a commitment to undertake a weekend morning trauma list during on‑call weekends.
Main duties
You will take part in the consultant on call rota. It is envisaged that the post holder will develop a subspecialty interest to complement those of the existing consultants.
Close working relationships with ENT colleagues in the MDT Head and Neck cancer service and with Clinical Nurse Specialists who link up exceptionally well with the Regional Head and Neck Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust) are expected.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – plus several community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI provide a range of general hospital services with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant‑led services. WGH offers a range of general hospital services together with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non‑life‑threatening conditions.
All three main hospitals deliver planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. Local outreach services and diagnostics are also available from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Person Specification
Essential qualifications
* MBChB or equivalent BDS or equivalent
* Full registration with GMC ± GDC
* CCST or equivalent / Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery FRCS (OMFS)
* Entry on Specialist register (or expected within 6/12 months)
* Research experience
* Recognised as medical educator
