The Role of CHP Engineer
Working on a variety of CHP systems - typically gas-powered engines - across industrial and commercial sites
Operating and monitoring CHP systems, including engines, generators, and heat recovery equipment
Performing routine and reactive maintenance
Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs
Logging performance data and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency
Ensuring compliance with health & safety and environmental standards
Liaising with contractors, OEMs, and site management
Supporting plant upgrades and performance reporting
The Right CHP Engineer
Experience in CHP, power generation, and maintenance.
Technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering (NVQ, HNC, or equivalent)
Previous experience working with CHP units, gas engines, or similar power systems
Understanding of engine maintenance, generators, and heat recovery systems
Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, and service documentation
Strong awareness of health & safety practices
Basic IT/data logging skills
Desirable but not essential:
Experience with SCADA or BMS systems
CHP manufacturer training (e.g., MAN, Jenbacher, MTU, etc.)
