Job Opportunity: School Counsellor
Part-time (15 hours per week): set two days to be confirmed, working 8:30am - 4:30pm – term-time only / £33,795 per annum pro rata / permanent

Established in 1996, Dialogue School Counselling is a BACP-accredited school counselling service covering Sussex and Surrey.
We are recruiting an experienced and qualified School Counsellor for our well-established service at Felpham Community College in Felpham, Bognor Regis. You will work with a range of clients within the Dialogue Thresholds, following a 6-8 session model, alongside another experienced counsellor and closely with the college's Student Services Pastoral team.
Key responsibilities
1. Manage a flexible appointment system tailored to the school's needs, providing assessments and counselling sessions for students.
2. Handle the role's time boundaries and a varied workload effectively.
3. Coordinate with school staff regarding referrals, waiting lists, and appointments.
4. Conduct initial clinical and risk assessments, establishing appropriate referral pathways with other services as needed.
5. Continuously assess risk during each student’s counselling.
6. Follow YMCA Dialogue safeguarding procedures; know the contact details of the School’s Designated Safeguarding Officer(s).
7. Operate within the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
8. Maintain individual BACP membership and aim to become a Registered Member or join another relevant professional body such as HCPC.
9. Build professional relationships with key school staff.

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience
1. Hold a Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification at minimum Level four, ideally Level six, with at least two years’ post-qualification experience in individual counselling or therapy with young people, including risk management.
2. Have a solid understanding of child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures.
3. Proven experience in safeguarding children and young people, including responding to and referring safeguarding concerns.
4. Be a BACP Member, either Registered or Accredited, or hold another professional registration such as HCPC.
5. Have a keen interest in working with children and familiarity with creative therapeutic approaches, with experience in a school setting.
