Healthcare Assistant - Phoenix Ward, Littlemore, Oxford.

We are looking forHealthcare Assistants to work on our male acute mental health inpatient ward, Phoenix Ward.

Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers contribute significantly to the standards of nursing, and patient experience and outcomes, providing valued support to our inpatient nursing and multi-disciplinary teams.

This role can be the first rung on the ladder to becoming a qualified nurse. You can progress through our apprenticeship framework without having to attend and fund a full time university course.

Clinical Support staff are the second largest staffing group behind nursing at Oxford Health Foundation Trust.


Main duties of the job

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

* To actively engage service users in meaningful conversation and therapeutic activity. Specifically, gaining an understanding of the individuals interests and incorporating these into the activities that are planned.
* To participate as a member of the team in delivering care as prescribed in the individuals care plan.
* Participate in the development, monitoring and evaluation of individual care plans.
* Develop therapeutic relationships as part of the on-going assessment and care delivery process, and ensure relevant information is reported to the trained nurse on shift

Person Specification


Qualifications

* A good command of English Language
* NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.


Skills

* Ability to communicate with a wide range of people verbally and in writing
* Awareness and acceptance of rights and needs of patients
* Able to recognize stress/anxieties in colleagues, patients and their families and offer appropriate support
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.


Experience

* Previous experience of working with patients with minimal supervision
* Understanding of other healthcare professional roles
* Experience of interdisciplinary working.
* Enthusiasm to work with people and promote a therapeutic environment
* Confident and able to work alone with patients with distant supervision
* Able to work flexibly to the needs of the service
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
* Caring, compassionate, and enthusiastic about delivering the highest quality care
* Ability to work as part of a team, and support all colleagues and healthcare professional
* Self-aware, resilient, and aware of own limitation.


Knowledge

* Understanding of other health care professional roles
* Demonstrate knowledge and ability to communicate with patients with complex needs using clear and effective verbal and nonverbal communication incorporating motivation and encouragement.
