Structural Integrity Engineer (FEA) - Submarines
Full Time
We have an interesting opportunity for two Structural Integrity Engineers to join our new office opening in Cardiff.
As a structural integrity engineer, you will be engaging primarily in structural integrity assessments including primary strength, fatigue, fatigue crack growth and fracture assessments, in accordance with ASME III and R6 defect tolerance assessment code.
You will be supporting a wide range of programmes from in-service support, new build, and future programmes.
You will also be building and maintaining Finite Element Analyses (FEA) models to extract stresses to be used in the justification of the components.
Our Submarines business is currently expanding and opening a new Office based in Cardiff in which we are looking for Engineers across multiple engineering disciplines. As part of this we are looking for a number of people with a strong background within Materials Engineering.

You will be undertaking a broad range of mechanical assessments, including linear, non-linear finite element analyses.
Making use of traditional hand calculation methods, commercial finite element codes (mainly Abaqus) and bespoke analysis codes.Development and implementation of methodologies to assess submarine nuclear plant components.These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
Qualified to degree level, or with equivalent experience, in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics.Able to prioritise tasks and work effectively on multiple projects at the same time.Demonstrate interest and expertise in structural integrity analysis.
Practical experience of using finite element methods (preferably Abaqus) for structural component assessment, along with experience of providing support to manufacturing engineers, designers and safety case authors.Experience of working in an industry where safety is a priority and in which components are justified to safety cases and/or design code requirements. To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.
