About the Role
As Principal Educational Psychologist, you will play a key strategic and operational leadership role within our Education, Inclusion and Achievement service. You will lead a team of Educational Psychologists and Assistant EPs, ensuring that our services deliver effective, timely, and inclusive support to schools, children, families, and other professionals.
You will also contribute to borough-wide SEND improvement initiatives and work closely with other leaders to influence policy, drive innovation and secure positive outcomes for children and young people across Stockton-on-Tees.
This is an exciting time to join the service, which has been without a Principal Educational Psychologist for several years. As such, this is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the service into a new chapter—strengthening its direction, culture, and impact on the lives of children, families, and professionals across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage a skilled team of Educational Psychologists and support staff.
* Oversee and develop a sustainable, high-impact traded service.
* Ensure professional standards and quality of delivery meet statutory and ethical requirements (HCPC & BPS).
* Provide clinical supervision, drive CPD, and support induction of new staff.
* Lead and contribute to SEND policy development and strategic planning.
* Undertake complex casework where appropriate, including assessment and advice.
* Build strong multi-agency partnerships across health, care, education and the voluntary sector.
About You
You’ll bring a proven track record as a Senior or Main Scale EP with at least 5 years' experience. You’re confident leading teams, influencing strategy, and delivering services that improve outcomes for children and young people.
We are looking for a practitioner with:
* HCPC registration and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology.
* Deep understanding of SEND legislation, inclusive education, and best practice in EP services.
* Strong leadership, analytical and communication skills.
* Experience managing budgets, traded services and supervising professional teams.
* A passion for collaborative, child-centred practice and driving system-wide improvement.
What Stockton-on-Tees Offer
* A dynamic and supportive working environment within a forward-thinking local authority.
* Competitive salary on the Soulbury Scale 8–14 (plus 3 SPA points).
