Employer Bio

Compass Counselling Services is looking for a dedicated and community-minded individual to join their Board of Trustees as Treasurer.

As a long-standing provider of professional mental health support in Liverpool, they have spent the last year expanding their reach—from supporting students at LJMU to launching new pilot projects with Everton in the Community, and Primary Care Services. As they look toward the future, they need a strategic financial lead to help us remain sustainable and effective.


Job Summary

The Treasurer provides vital oversight of their financial health. This is an unpaid, voluntary role that can be conducted through a mix of remote work and meetings in Liverpool.

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Governance & Strategy
* Strategic Oversight: Help guide the charity’s long-term financial strategy, including the development and implementation of the multi-year Business Plan.
* Board Reporting: Present financial reports at Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to ensure fellow Trustees understand the charity’s financial position.
* Policy & Compliance: Work with the Board to ensure all financial policies and governance frameworks are up to date and comply with sector regulations.
* Risk Management: Advise the Board on financial risks, cost controls, and the impact of service demand on resources.
Income & Sustainability
* Funding Diversification: Support efforts to diversify income streams, including grants, service fees, and individual fundraising initiatives.
* Resource Monitoring: Oversee the allocation of restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure they are used in accordance with donor requirements.
* Reserve Building: Help the Board develop and maintain a reserves policy to ensure the charity’s future stability.
* Committee Participation: Serve as a key member of the Business and Governance Group, helping to align operational decisions with financial reality.
* Staff Liaison: Act as a supportive point of contact for the CEO and administrative team regarding financial processes and reporting.
* Ambassadorship: Act as an advocate for Compass Counselling, supporting the charity’s mission to provide high-quality, professional support.
