We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Development Management Team Leader to play a key role in delivering an efficient, high-quality planning service. This is an exciting opportunity to lead, influence, and shape development management within a forward‑thinking Council, while supporting a talented team and driving service improvement.
About the role: As Development Management Team Leader, you will support the Planning Development Manager in the effective delivery of the Council's Development Management function. You will play a central role in ensuring timely, robust decision‑making and delivering excellent customer service to residents, developers and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, train and support planning staff across varying levels of experience
* Oversee the processing and determination of planning applications
* Sign off delegated decisions and allocate work across the team
* Act as lead officer at Planning Committees, hearings and inquiries
* Represent the Council at appeals and provide expert planning input
* Handle complaints professionally, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
* Support service improvements, innovation and income generation initiatives
* Work collaboratively to promote pre‑application advice services and Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs)
We are looking for a confident and capable planning professional with strong leadership and communication skills.
Qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related field
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RTPI)
* Strong working knowledge of the planning application process and legislative framework
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Proven ability to build relationships and manage conflict effectively
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills
* Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle
