As a Controls Engineer at Gatwick Airport, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safe, resilient, and high‑performing operation of the airport's Baggage Handling and Control Systems (BHCS). This involves the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated systems that manage the flow of passenger baggage from check‑in to aircraft loading and from aircraft unloading to baggage reclaim.
Responsibilities
* Undertake and support technician teams in performance improvement activities across all systems to deliver better availability.
* Produce effective communication and reports to stakeholders, such as GAL teams and third‑party contractors.
* Lead and give advice on root cause investigations associated with baggage systems and related IT elements.
* Prepare and review technical documentation in accordance with company procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards.
* Deliver 2nd line baggage control support to shift teams 24/7/365 to enable safe, resilient and high‑performing systems.
* Experience working with technician teams to deliver system improvements.
* Lead preparation of technical proposals for upcoming projects.
* Manage contractors and other technical resources to maintain baggage operation.
* Perform PLC code changes.
* Translate technical work to various business partners – stakeholder management skills.
* Knowledge of technologies such as Siemens S7, ASi, and Profinet.
* Understanding of IT infrastructure and configurations.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven track record of working in baggage operation, strong technical ability, and ability to make decisions under pressure.
* Experience managing contractors and other technical resources to maintain baggage operation.
* Knowledge of Siemens S7, ASi, Profinet, and related technologies.
* Understanding of PLC coding and ability to undertake PLC code changes.
* Knowledge of IT infrastructure and configurations.
* Excellent stakeholder‑management skills, able to translate technical work to various business partners.
