We’re looking for a Senior Temporary Works Coordinator (STWC) to take a lead role on the Lower Thames Crossing – a major infrastructure project that includes new roads, complex structures, and the UK’s longest road tunnel under the Thames. On Roads North, the work is varied and technically challenging. You’ll be dealing with everything from deep excavations, ground support and bridge construction to heavy structures, temporary access, lifting, and tricky interfaces with existing infrastructure and utilities. A lot of it involves complex sequencing, so understanding how things fit together in practice is key.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Support the Temporary Works Manager in implementing and maintaining the project-wide temporary works procedure
* Lead and coordinate a team of Temporary Works Coordinators, ensuring consistent standards and performance
* Act as the technical authority for temporary works within your area
* Work closely with permanent works designers, temporary works designers, and site teams to ensure solutions are practical, safe, and buildable
* Plan and manage the delivery of Temporary Works Design Briefs (TWDBs), ensuring AIPs, Form As, and GDRs are submitted and approved in line with programme
* Review and approve Category 3 Temporary Works Design Briefs, ensuring they are suitable for site conditions and constraints
* Lead constructability reviews and contribute to construction methodologies and sequencing
* Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and safe dismantling of temporary works
* Monitor temporary works performance, identify trends or risks, and implement improvements
* Carry out audits of subcontractors and internal teams to ensure compliance
* Support competency assessments, designer reviews, and training plans for TWCs and TWSs
* Ensure clear allocation and acceptance of temporary works responsibilities across all parties
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who can operate confidently at senior level – technically strong, but also able to lead, influence, and make decisions.
Essential
* Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
* 5–10 years’ experience in temporary works (design, coordination, or supervision)
* At least 3 years in a senior or lead TWC role
* Strong knowledge of BS5975:2019, PAS8811:2017, and CDM Regulations 2015
* Experience working on complex infrastructure or multi-disciplinary projects
* SMSTS and CSCS card
Desirable
* CITB Temporary Works Coordinator qualification
* Experience on highways, structures, or tunnelling projects
* Experience with audits, assurance, and continuous improvement
* Commercial awareness (scope definition, procurement support, etc.)
Benefits
* Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow
* 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata)
* Family friendly policies which include 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partners leave
* Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and much more
