Offer description

Let’s transform society together…

We’re Sweco.

We’re future planners, city shapers, urban innovators, digital transformers, net zero chasers, community connectors, social enterprisers and lifestyle improvers.

We’re difference makers.

We’re Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy and we’re now recruiting for Building Control Apprentices to join us this summer/Autumn.

Sweco Building Control is one of the leading Building Control consultancies in England and Wales, having provided client-focused expertise since 1998. As a Registered Building Control Approver (RBCA), we directly employ around 100 Registered Building Inspectors (RBIs), across the UK.

As an Apprentice Building Control Surveyor, you will study for a BSc(Hons) in Building Control with the University of The Built Environment which is taught as an online course giving you the flexibility to combine your work and studies to suit you.

What does the role involve?

During your time as an Apprentice, you will spend 80% of your time on project work and 20% of time studying.

Working with Sweco will give you the opportunity to work on landmark projects and schemes of all shapes and sizes. You will also learn from experienced people who share a passion for working together with our customers to deliver technical excellence.

Our Building Regulation and Building Standards teams work on a wide range of domestic and commercial projects and you will have the opportunity to broaden your expertise and work collaboratively in exciting, transformational projects. Not only with clients but also with our partners.

What do you need to apply?

We Are Seeking Apprentices Who

* Have an interest and basic understanding of the construction industry and UK Building Regulations.
* Have desire to learn, progress and challenge yourself.
* Are able to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with clients and other team members and to produce written documents in clear English.
* Possess 96 UCAS tariff points (or an equivalent level of attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS tariff).
* Have GSCE Grade C or 4 and above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
* Can work in the UK with no restrictions.
* The role will involve a mixture of office based work and work visiting building sites. Having access to your own means of travel is beneficial, though not necessary. It would be expected that candidates would be able to drive by the end of their apprenticeship.
* Be available to start in September 2026.

What’s in it for you?

We pride ourselves on our quality and technical expertise and achieved the ISO/IEC 17020 international accreditation standard following a rigorous external on-site assessment by the International Accreditation Board – ANAB. This accreditation allows Sweco to demonstrate integrity, reliability and technical competence as well as compliance with internationally recognised good practices. Sweco is the first building control consultancy in the UK to achieve this accreditation and are proud to deliver such technical expertise to our clients.

We have an excellent track record for training and development of our employees and working for Sweco you’ll experience an inclusive, friendly and flexible working environment where colleagues are encouraged to grow and develop. A meaningful job where you’ll help to transform society by being a trusted consultant to our clients.

Apprentice Promise

Sweco are committed to sustaining a highly competent and motivated work force that exceed our clients’ expectations through our Apprentice Degree program.

To ensure this we make this promise to our Apprentices:

* Your program is linked to your career path.
* You will work on real work.
* You will have a higher professional value at the end of the five-year program than if you had graduated through full time education and your training will be funded.
* You will be provided with internal training structured to the ultimate qualification and professional registration you are aiming for and have highly professional mentors along the way.
* You will be part of a large multi profession apprentice cohort and attend company apprentice events.
* You will be involved in the collective delivery of business challenges and will start to build your own network of clients and professional associates.

If you believe you have the skill set required, are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.

Benefits

In addition to the above our benefits include:

* 28 days holiday, plus your birthday off and the option to purchase an additional 5 days per year.
* Employee Assistance Programme offering wellbeing, mental health, financial and work advice.
* Private Medical Insurance
* Pension
* Life Assurance
* Payment of 2 relevant professional subscriptions
* Cycle to Work Scheme
* Employee discounts via Sweco Benefit Select (Faircare)
* We plant a tree for every new starter!
