Project Background
An exciting opportunity to work on one of the UK’s most significant clean technology projects. A major global battery manufacturing organisation is developing a state‑of‑the‑art gigaplant located at the Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater, Somerset. This site, formerly known as ROF 37, is being transformed into a leading hub for advanced manufacturing and green innovation.
This multi‑phase project represents approximately £4 billion in investment, aiming to deliver 40 GWh annual battery production capacity, supporting the UK’s automotive and energy sectors. Once operational, the plant is expected to create up to 4,000 high‑skilled local jobs, with substantial growth in the wider supply chain. Production is targeted to commence in the mid‑2020s, with the facility intended to supply a significant proportion of the UK’s battery cell demand by the early 2030s.
Overview
The client is seeking an experienced Electrical Project Manager to oversee electrical installation and construction activities for this large‑scale industrial development. The successful candidate will act as the client’s on‑site representative, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of all electrical works in line with design specifications, regulations, and client standards.
This role is well‑suited to individuals with strong expertise in managing HV/LV electrical systems across complex industrial, manufacturing, or gigafactory‑style projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight
* Serve as the client’s on‑site representative for all electrical construction activities
* Monitor contractor performance, site operations, schedules, budgets, and quality targets
* Coordinate with engineering, automation, and commissioning teams to manage interfaces and dependencies
Technical & Installation Management
* Oversee installation of substations, switchgear, power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and control systems
* Review electrical design drawings, equipment specifications, and method statements
* Ensure compliance with BS 7671, UK building regulations, and relevant electrical and safety standards
Safety & Quality
* Promote electrical safety and ensure works meet statutory and company standards
* Conduct inspections, technical reviews, and acceptance testing of electrical systems
* Identify non‑conformances and manage corrective actions
Stakeholder & Contractor Coordination
* Interface between the client, EPCM, and subcontractors to resolve technical and logistical issues
* Validate contractor claims, change requests, and progress reporting
* Participate in design, coordination, and project progress meetings
Reporting & Documentation
* Produce weekly site reports covering progress, issues, and upcoming milestones
* Maintain accurate technical records, inspection reports, and as‑built documentation
Skills & Requirements
Education
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline
Experience
* 10+ years experience managing electrical construction on large industrial or manufacturing projects
* Proven expertise in HV/LV distribution systems, automation interfaces, and commissioning
* Experience with gigafactory, automotive, energy storage, or advanced manufacturing projects desirable
Skills And Competencies
* Strong technical knowledge of electrical infrastructure and systems integration
* Excellent communication, coordination, and contractor management skills
* Ability to drive safe, compliant, and timely delivery of complex site works
* Proficient in MS Project and familiar with construction management systems
Certifications
* ECS / CSCS and SMSTS (or equivalent safety accreditation) required
