Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time band 5 nurse to work within the Day Surgery Unit based in Withybush hospital. The day surgery unit is a nurse-led unit specialising in surgical treatments and procedures which can be completed as a day case. We offer orthopaedic, gynaecology, urology, general, pain, and dermatology specialties. We have teams covering all four sites with visiting surgeons.
As part of the team, you will share high standards and passion, providing proactive, compassionate care and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure patients are treated promptly and appropriately.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge related to their role and will be encouraged to use evidence-based practice to further enhance their skills.
Various full and part-time hours are available.
Main duties of the job
* Admit, assess, and implement a care plan for patients attending the unit. As a nurse-led unit, we assess patients' suitability for treatment, complete pre-treatment checks, and highlight contraindications if necessary.
* Medication management, including preparation and administration.
* Recognise emergency situations such as anaphylaxis and sepsis and manage appropriately.
* Supervise healthcare support workers, students, and junior doctors, actively participating in their ongoing education and development.
* Assist and maintain a safe working environment.
* Work collaboratively within the hospital and trust to ensure smooth referral processes, allowing patients to be treated locally.
* Maintain accurate and clear documentation related to patient admissions.
