The Sixth Form at our College is primarily responsible for delivering A Level, AS, GCSE, and BTEC Science courses and is based at the Uxbridge site. The Sixth Form has a strong track record of achieving excellent results, placing it within the top 10% of colleges nationally for A Level progress. History and Politics are among our best performing subjects, with significant numbers of students achieving high grades. All History and Politics qualifications offered follow the Pearson Edexcel specifications.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated lecturer in History and Politics to continue the strong work of the outgoing staff member. Applications are welcome from both experienced teachers and enthusiastic new entrants to the profession. The role involves teaching AS and A Level History and Politics, as well as GCSE History.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in History, Politics, or a closely related subject and have teaching experience up to A Level, with a proven track record of excellent teaching and learning. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to engage and inspire students aged 16-19. If you do not yet hold a teaching qualification, the College will fully support you in obtaining the Level 5 teaching qualification.
DUTIES
Design and Delivery of Programmes
·Teach on a range of programmes in the relevant subject area, including AS and A level History and Politics and GCSE History.
·Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials for teaching programmes.
·Utilise IT and learning technology to deliver elements of the curriculum.
·Where appropriate integrate the delivery and assessment of key/core skills into the curriculum.
·Prepare assessment plans and schedules and ensure students are aware of your expectations.
·Assess students’ progress regularly including the timely marking of work and giving feedback, both written and oral.
·Work towards the integration of students’ basic skills’ development in the delivery of teaching and learning.
Qualifications:
·Degree in History or Politics or a closely related subject
·Maths and English at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent or willing to achieve
·Level 5 or above teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g. PGCE, DET)**, or willingness and ability to obtain qualification, supported by the College
Knowledge and Experience:
·Experience of teaching History and/or Politics in a classroom setting, up to Advanced Level
·Able to demonstrate a high standard of teaching and student achievement
Other Skills:
·Ability to engage and inspire students aged 16-19
·Good communication skills, written and verbal
·Good interpersonal skills
·Good classroom practice
·Ability to use IT within the curriculum
·Good administrative/organisational skills
·Ability to work effectively as part of a team
