Job Summary
Provide highly specialised podiatric care in the Diabetic Foot Clinic, a podiatry‑led multidisciplinary tertiary referral unit. Deliver a podiatry service across multiple sites, support multidisciplinary teams, educate patients, carers and professionals, and promote podiatry locally and internationally.
Clinical Practice
* Act as a clinical expert in diabetic foot management, promoting and demonstrating first‑class care through evidence‑based practice and research.
* Lead clinical care by independently managing a patient caseload across the Trust with support from the multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure each patient receives a comprehensive wound assessment and appropriate referral to the relevant speciality.
* Facilitate booking of investigations and interpretation of results for the MDT.
* Provide expert treatment using advanced wound techniques, including sharp debridement, VAC and larvae therapy.
* Advise on pressure‑relieving devices and liaise with the orthotics department for appropriate footwear provision.
* Conduct measurements of transcutaneous oxygen tension pre‑ and post‑angioplasty and post‑bypass surgery.
* Run early discharge clinics for complex patients to reduce inpatient length of stay.
* Attend weekly angiography meetings and present diabetic foot patient histories and feedback to the MDT.
* Identify and address areas of poor practice to ensure safe and effective care.
* Collaborate with PCTs, Tissue Viability Nurse Specialists and podiatry services for continuity of care.
Education
* Develop and participate in local ward‑based and Trust‑wide education programmes for the MDT on general diabetic foot care and management.
* Educate and advise patients and their significant others on all aspects of diabetic foot care.
* Contribute to teaching on postgraduate courses and annual study days for link nurses and allied health professionals.
Management
* Evaluate database content and perform statistical analysis of activities for presentation at MDT meetings and grand rounds.
* Prepare annual reports of diabetic foot activities and standards of care for review by medical care group management.
Professional Development
* Maintain professional knowledge of current research and issues within the podiatry profession.
* Publish patient data and submit abstracts on recent innovations to appropriate conferences.
* Undergo an annual performance review and take responsibility for personal professional development.
* Participate in national interest groups to exchange knowledge and ideas.
General Responsibilities
* Exercise general duty of care for personal health, safety, and wellbeing, and for the safety of colleagues, visitors and patients.

Essential Qualifications
* HCPC registration
* BSc in Podiatry
* Evidence of specialist experience in diabetes foot management.
* Experience of ulcer debridement and advanced wound techniques such as cast therapy, diabetes modules, and larval therapy.
Desirable Qualifications
* Completion of a Diabetic Foot Module.
