Assistant Accountant
* Location: Wideopen
* Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 (depending on experience)
* Job Type: Full-time, Monday – Friday, Permanent, Office-Based
A well-established construction organisation is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join its busy and expanding finance team. This role is integral to maintaining accurate financial records across multiple business entities, performing reconciliations, supporting month-end processes, and upholding strong financial controls throughout the organisation.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Conduct bank, credit card, and control account reconciliations.
* Support the month-end process and the preparation of management accounts.
* Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
* Input supplier invoices and expenses into Sage 50 Accounts.
* Raise and post sales invoices, manage credit control, and chase outstanding invoices.
* Resolve supplier and customer queries efficiently.
* Assist with VAT returns and the administration of CIS returns.
* Maintain accurate subcontractor records.
* Support financial reporting and analysis.
* Assist with the preparation of year-end information for external accountants.
* Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and systems.
* Assist with finance system improvements and implementations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Previous experience in an accounting or finance role.
* Strong proficiency in using Sage 50 Accounts.
* Good Excel skills and experience completing account reconciliations.
* Desirable: Construction industry experience, CIS knowledge, experience working within an SME environment, and AAT qualification (qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience).
