What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced, proactive Communications Manager to lead all internal and external communications for the firm.
Where will you be based?
This role can be based from any of our North East offices (Durham, Darlington, Gosforth) with flexibility to travel and work from other EMG offices as required as well as outside of normal office hours from time to time to support with firm BD events.
How many hours will you be working?
This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, however at EMG Solicitors we work flexibly. It is not a 9 to 5 role, but we do expect the work to be done, when you do it can be largely up to yourself and your Team Leader.
A brief overview of the role:
This role is central to shaping how the firm presents its expertise, strengthens its reputation, and engages with clients, colleagues, and the wider legal market. The Communications Manager will work closely with senior leaders, legal team leaders, and the business development team to deliver impactful, consistent, and on brand messaging.
As EMG Solicitors continues to undergo sustainable growth, the successful candidate will also support the team with wider business development activity to support the firm and the legal teams to deliver their specific business development and marketing objectives, and the role will report to the Business Development Manager (BDM).

External Communications
Develop and execute a firm‑wide communications strategy aligned with business goals, understanding what the business needs to say, to whom, when, and through which channels.
Manage press relations, including drafting press releases, coordinating interviews, and nurturing media and advertising contacts.
Oversee the creation of high‑quality thought leadership content such as articles, client alerts, and commentary.
Ensure all external messaging is compliant, accurate, and supportive of the firm's reputation.
Lead the firm's digital communications, including website and social media content, working closely with the Marketing Executive and Marketing Assistant to support.
Creating and managing engaging content which reflects the businesses' voice, goals and values, for example through thought leadership articles, e-marketing and promotional materials.
Keeping up to date with the latest developments in marketing communications and trends.
Internal Communications
Create and deliver internal communications that keep colleagues informed, engaged, and aligned with firm initiatives.
Brand & Reputation Management
Maintain and enforce brand guidelines across all departments.
Monitor the firm's reputation across media and digital channels, providing insights and recommendations.
Coordinate award submissions, directory listings, and legal rankings. Leading the firm's entries to Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners to highlight the firm's specialist practice areas.
Content & Collateral
Oversee the production of marketing materials such as brochures and other marketing collateral to ensure consistent tone of voice.
Edit and proofread written content to ensure clarity, consistency, and legal‑sector professionalism.
Collaborate with senior leaders and stakeholders to create engaging client communications.
Other Business Development Activities
Be a collaborative and supportive member of the Business Development & Marketing team. Attending business development meetings as required by the BDM and supporting legal teams to achieve their business development objectives.
Organise and assist with photography, video and visual content to support firm communications.
To be able to perform this job you will need:
Proven experience in communications, PR, or marketing - ideally within a professional services or legal environment.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an eye for detail.
Strong understanding of media relations and digital communication channels.
Effective time management and organisational skills will need to be part of your skill set and you will need to be able to work under your own initiative to be proactive when working to tight deadlines.
Excellent stakeholder management and the confidence to work directly with partners and senior leaders.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.

Degree qualification – preferably in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.
