Job Overview
We are delighted to announce that an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Clinical Psychologist within a well-established and innovative multidisciplinary team. The successful post holder will be directly accountable to the BCUHB Head of Health Psychology.
The Musculoskeletal Early Intervention Team is a unique service comprised of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Nurses, Consultant Clinical Psychologists and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. The team accepts referrals for people with non-resolving musculoskeletal conditions who have been identified as being at high risk of developing persistent pain as a consequence of presenting with significant psychosocial indicators. They use a combination of pain education, acceptance and commitment approaches, graded exposure to movement, expert physiotherapy, occupational and psychological interventions. The team reports an excellent success rate, with over 95% of those who complete treatment reporting that their pain is either reduced or completely resolved.
Main duties of the job
As Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the Service, the post holder will have clinical responsibility for and will work directly and indirectly with patients, families and staff members within the service. While the post holder will hold a caseload of individuals requiring more complex psychological work, the emphasis will be on developing an assessment and consultation role within the Team.
The Consultant will be responsible for the governance of the service, service development, innovation, audit and evaluation, and for representing the Team in the wider Health Community. The post holder will supervise junior clinical psychologists (including trainee clinical psychologists) and provide support and clinical supervision for other MDT members in relation to their psychological interventions.
