Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car /car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Role: As part of SSEN Transmission’s Offshore Portfolio, we are looking for a Senior FACTS Engineer to join our Offshore AC Project Engineering team. You will help drive forward our Island and Offshore projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island and Offshore projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state‑of‑the‑art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology.
Responsibilities
* Write and review scope of works for FACTS and grid stabilisation technology from 132kV to 400kV, reviewing and approving primary plant contractor designs through development and execution phases and attending FATs to support the Technical Authority process.
* Promote best practice within the FACTS discipline by providing suggested improvements in specifications, innovating technology options and managing engineering risks.
* Drive decision making and support projects through peer review of key issues.
* Support and direct Project Engineers within their specialist remit, using your technical expertise. The Project Engineers are managed directly via Engineering Managers; the Senior role is to provide technical support and, in doing so, support the Engineering Manager. This will include support during recruitment and advising on training and development requirements of the Electric Plant Engineering Team.
* Take a key role in advising on the performance of external Engineering Consultants and Contractors who are part of the supply chain delivering a significant portfolio of work, as well as focusing on the internal SSE Engineering resource.
Qualifications
* Demonstrable experience in transmission‑level FACTS specification, basic design review, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning ideally up to 400kV for STATCOMs, AC Choppers, SYNCONs, and the ability to technically assess issues and critically assess a range of solutions.
* Excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and the implications for both assets and projects, including CDM & ESQCR.
* Effective communication skills – able to communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely to allow decision making by senior management.
* Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, building strong and lasting relationships.
* Ideally degree qualified in Electrical or a relevant engineering discipline and ideally a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
