Offer description

We are proud to be One Team at East Midlands Railway (EMR). We are passionate about keeping people safe, delighting our customers, doing the right thing and putting customers at the heart of our sustainable railway for the East Midlands. With over 2,600 employees, our people are the reason we are so successful. Nine times accredited as a Top Employer, we value our people and are dedicated to making sure that everybody feels empowered to bring their authentic self to work.

We have an exciting opportunity to join #Team EMR as a Fleet Standards and Business Continuity Manager.

At EMR we want to proactively embrace diversity across our workforce and recognise that we are under-represented in terms of females and ethnic minority groups. We’re therefore taking positive steps to promote a positive and inclusive culture; we welcome applications from those that identify with these groups to better represent our communities.

Reporting to the Fleet Quality Manager, this pivotal role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of East Midlands Railway’s Fleet Function. You’ll develop and maintain standards, procedures, and documentation in line with legislation, industry requirements, and ISO standards—supporting EMR’s Safety Certificate and continuous improvement.

You’ll also lead Business Continuity planning across EMR depots, building and testing robust strategies to keep operations running safely with minimal disruption during incidents or emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure compliance with railway legislation, industry standards, ISO:9001, and EMR’s Safety Certificate.
2. Manage the planning, approval, publication, and control of fleet procedures and documentation.
3. Lead the development, maintenance, and testing of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
4. Identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure depot readiness for disruption.
5. Collaborate with stakeholders to keep processes, procedures, and BCPs fit for purpose.
6. Support audits, assurance checks, and ISO accreditation retention.
7. Drive continual improvement by adopting best practice across the Fleet function.
8. Manage suppliers providing documentation or related services.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

9. Level 4 qualification (or equivalent), ideally in an engineering/technical discipline.
10. Strong knowledge of rail vehicle maintenance, ECM regulations, and industry standards.
11. Experience in Business Continuity planning and quality systems (ISO 9000).
12. Qualified internal auditor with understanding of audits and compliance.
13. Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with proficiency in MS Office.

An understanding of rail vehicle maintenance practices and operations, including relevant principles and standards, is desirable, along with competence in depot safety rules and PTS.

As well as a competitive salary, we’ll also offer you:

14. An excellent defined benefit Railway pension scheme
15. 32 days’ holiday in the first 2 years; moving up to 34 days’ thereafter
16. Free First Class duty travel on the EMR network
17. Free standard leisure travel on the EMR network and Train Operating Companies under Transport UK & LNER and 75% discount on national leisure travel (inc partner and dependants)
18. Friends and Family discounted tickets on the EMR network
19. Various training opportunities
20. Employee benefits portal with access to generous discounts, Cycle 2 Work Scheme …and many more!

While located in Derby this role will be expected to work across all EMR Fleet Locations.

EMR has a hybrid working policy which is applicable for this role. This means the role can be based at home 2-3 days and onsite 2-3 days per week. Should you wish to work full time on site, this is also an option.

We are open minded to applications from people who wish to have flexible working. Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise not to judge you for asking.

Ready to take on this exciting opportunity? Submit your online application form and upload your CV. As we operate a blind screening process please remove all personal information including your name from your CV.
