About Driver61
We're a 1.4M subscriber YouTube channel covering Formula 1 from a technical perspective. Our founder, Scott Mansell, is an ex-professional racing driver with exclusive access to F1 teams, factories, and engineers.
We create Veritasium-style technical deep-dives for F1. Think: McLaren's No Suspension Secrets or What If F1 Had No Rules?
The Role
We're hiring a senior writer-director to lead our content creation. This isn't a typical scriptwriter role - you'll be a creative partner who:
* Pitches ideas: Come to us with video concepts, not wait for assignments
* Researches independently: We give you F1 access, you find the stories
* Directs the narrative: Review raw footage from factory tours/engineer interviews and craft the story
* Writes compelling VO: Word-for-word scripts that make complex engineering engaging
* Understands YouTube: Algorithm, retention, pacing, thumbnails
You'll have:
* Exclusive F1 team access
* World-class engineering interviews
* Freedom to pursue stories you're passionate about
* Remote flexibility (work from anywhere)
What We're Looking For
Must Have:
* 3-5 years writing for YouTube channels (ideally 500k+ subs)
* Portfolio showing technical storytelling (Veritasium/Cleo Abram/Real Engineering level)
* Engineering or technical background (or proven ability to master complex subjects)
* Autonomous worker (we review outlines and scripts, you handle everything else)
* Understanding of YouTube retention, algorithm, pacing
Nice to Have:
* F1 knowledge (we can teach this, but passion helps)
* Experience with Veritasium, Cleo Abram, or similar channels
* Motorsport, automotive or aerospace engineering background
The Work
* Output: ~1 script per week (40 per year)
* Process: Pitch Research Outline (Scott reviews) Script (Scott reviews) 1-2 revisions Final
Compensation
* Salary: 45-60k/year + performance bonus (based on experience)
* Employment: Full-time, remote-friendly

* Benefits: Flexible hours, creative freedom, F1 access
