Overview

Are you a compassionate and motivated nurse looking to make a difference in respiratory care? We are seeking a dedicated Band 5 Nurse to join our Respiratory Intervention team on a permanent basis. As part of a specialist multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality patient care for individuals undergoing respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Responsibilities

* Assist with respiratory procedures in the procedure room and care for patients in the recovery area.
* Complete admission documentation prior to the patient's procedure, taking into account their physical health and psychological needs.
* Escalate any patient issues to the medical team prior to their procedure.
* Understand different consent forms and when they are used.
* Participate in WHO checklists and answer the questions when the WHO is performed.
* Assist the medical team with procedures, providing comfort and reassurance to patients.
* Monitor patients during their procedure and in recovery, performing and documenting observations, recognising deteriorating patients and escalating concerns immediately to the medical team.
* Participate in safe manual handling and positioning of patients.
* Ensure that all bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy equipment is cleaned and maintained correctly, according to manufacturer guidelines.
* Perform cannulation and venepuncture (training will be provided).
* Perform blood glucose monitoring and escalates any anomalies.
* Recognise and use PPE appropriately for infectious patients (all staff must be fit tested to specific FFP3 masks).
* Recognise and respond to emergency situations.
* Recognise when a patient's condition is deteriorating, escalating to senior staff/medical team.


Essential qualifications

* Registered Nurse (Part 1.8.12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.
* UK recognised degree in nursing relevant to the post.
* Post‑graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
* Ability to put patients, families and carers at the heart of care.
* Demonstrated pride in the quality of care delivered and willingness to learn from successes and setbacks.


Desirable qualifications

* Experience working in a day‑case unit or assisting in procedures such as pleural aspiration or bronchoscopy.
* Motivated and able to articulate reasons for desire to work in the specific practice area.
* Positive, enthusiastic character.
* Able to undertake specific procedures involving physical skills commensurate with the practice area.
* Resilient under pressure.
* Appropriate UK professional registration.
