An opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer - Measurement Development to join the Rolls Royce Defence Future Programmes team in Bristol. The Global Combat Air Programme is a multinational initiative led by the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy to jointly develop a sixth‑generation stealth fighter. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work at the frontline of our manufacturing technology, as we create, develop and adapt manufacturing processes that will be introduced and used for years to come to deliver the GCAP power and propulsion system. You will be responsible for developing and delivering metrology capability across a number of novel engine components.

You will work closely with digital manufacturing colleagues, senior specialists, design and manufacturing engineers to lead the development and validation of automated metrology programming capability using Model Based Definitions. This offers a fantastic opportunity to develop a career with a high impact and high visibility across the Rolls‑Royce group as this is an emerging capability within the business. You will ensure that new products are measured accurately, reliably and cost effectively, working with a range of stakeholders to ensure inspection methods are available on time whilst ensuring they are robust, capable and that cost and quality are optimised by design.

What you will be doing

* Write, validate and deploy measurement programmes in Zeiss Inspect, Polyworks and other software platforms.
* Ensure measurement system analysis is carried out effectively within Rolls-Royce and supply chain facilities.
* Lead the selection, justification, acquisition and commissioning of new product verification equipment. Drive continuous improvement and process control activities.
* Contribute to relevant internal and external global communities of practice and collaborate with other specialists across the company to develop strategy, processes, methods and standards in metrology and product verification.
* Engage in Design for Manufacture to ensure future engine parts make full use of Model Based Definition to automate creation and change of measurement processes.

Who were looking for

* Professionally qualified engineer with a degree, HND or equivalent and a deep understanding of manufacturing measurement.
* Experience of creating digital measurement programmes, preferably in Polyworks and/or Zeiss Inspect.
* A high level of computer literacy and digital manufacturing experience, including familiarity with CAD (preferably Siemens NX).
* A strong technical engineering background with broad experience of manufacturing, design for manufacture, build‑in‑quality and inspection planning, as well as experience of technology development and product introduction methodologies (APQP and PPAP).
* Experience with Rolls‑Royce Metrology Skills Alliance standards for metrology and ability to show experience at Level 2 or above in many categories of NMSA 1 and NMSA 2.1.

Note: To work for Rolls-Royce you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you dont currently have this in place. Due to the nature of work, you must hold UK nationality.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We welcome applications from people with a refugee background.

What we offer

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It is a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we are all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.
