Airfield Operations Duty Manager
The role
Due to internal promotion, there is an exciting opportunity for an Airfield Operations Duty Manager based at the East Midlands Airport. This role requires a dynamic individual who is ultimately responsible for all aspects of airfield operations ensuring all actions are carried out safely, efficiently and proactively improves performance as well as exceeding customer expectations.
This role requires someone to provided day to day leadership of the operations team as well as successfully running the department on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. The successful candidate must be prepared to work 12-hour shifts covering days and nights.
Duties include:-
* Assist the Head of Airfield Operations in developing, enhancing, and effectively managing airside safety and the wider airside environment, ensuring the experience of EMA passengers, freight customers, and other airport users exceeds expectations.
* Support the implementation of effective monitoring and reporting processes to ensure third parties comply with the requirements of the ground handling licence.
* Maintain a strong working knowledge of CAA regulations, together with relevant CAA CAP documentation, and apply these within day-to-day operations.
* Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the airport’s Wildlife Hazard Management Plan, ensuring it is implemented effectively on a daily basis.
* Promote awareness of the airport’s environmental objectives and contribute to achieving EMA’s net zero goals.
* Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including Air Traffic Control, ground handlers, and other airport departments, to ensure joined-up working and avoid siloed operations.
* Ensure all airside works are properly planned, controlled, and carried out safely, including reviewing permits to work and ensuring compliance with the Aerodrome Manual.
* Maintain strong operational awareness and plan proactively for adverse conditions, including inclement weather, snow operations, and low visibility procedures.
* Support the Head of Airfield Operations with business planning, project delivery, and resource planning activities.
* Act as a key point of coordination during emergency and abnormal operations, ensuring safe and effective management of incidents across aprons, taxiways, and runways.
* Line manage Airfield Safety and Compliance Officers and Airfield Security Rangers, supporting their professional development, performance, and future career progression.
* Foster a positive team culture by improving employee relations, providing coaching and feedback, and ensuring effective application of HR policies and processes.
* Contribute to continuous improvement in airfield safety, operational resilience, compliance, and team performance across all airside activities.
What will make you successful in the role?
Technical Qualifications:
Substantial experience in airfield operations.
Achieve and maintain an intermediate operations qualification.
Must be capable of obtaining CTC level security clearance.
Must hold a full UK driving license.
Must be capable of obtaining an Airside Driving Permit, including all medical requirements.
Must hold, or be capable of obtaining, a firearms license.
Developing and maintaining operational procedures and processes.
Implementing operational procedures and processes to ensure safety at all times.
Carrying out in depth accident investigations.
People management and supervisory experience.
