We are looking to appoint a new Core Teacher/HTLA to lead the effective provision of teaching, behaviour and support to students at our satellite site with occasional teaching at our main site on Tame Street. Kettlebrook Short Stay School (KSSS) is a Local Authority Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) – it is recognised as a fully inclusive school that empowers our students to make positive changes and achieve positive outcomes onto the next phase of their education. KSSS is judged by OFSTED as a good school and is federated with Burton PRU in Burton-upon-Trent. We have strong links with schools and agencies across Tamworth. We are fully commitment to providing the best holistic education to each of our students (and their families) who have been or are at risk of being permanently excluded. You will need experience in teaching students who may have barriers to learning. Your educational philosophy will need to be based in trauma informed, relational and restorative practice. You will work closely with KSSS’s Senior Leadership Team, to shape and deliver the mission, vision and values of our school. You will be an excellent practitioner who has a very good understanding of SEND and ideally experience of working with students who have been or are at risk of being permanently excluded from secondary school education. This role is based at our Intensive Skills Group (ISG) satellite site. This site educates a small number of students on a daily basis. We require a skilled member of staff to lead the daily management of the provision including teaching, and leading support interventions. This is a role which requires independent working, resilience and positive behaviour management. The ideal candidate will bring an enthusiasm for teaching across a variety of subjects and an understanding of how to overcome barriers to learning. This role would suit either: • A (Teacher appointment): QTS (or working towards), ability to plan/assess across the relevant curriculum, lead learning for a small cohort, liaise with main site staff and external agencies. • B (HLTA/Support appointment): HLTA status (or equivalent experience), strong experience delivering interventions and supporting pupils with high need, ability to run learning sessions under the direction of an appropriately qualified teacher, contribute to tracking/progress evidence and reintegration planning. To have an ‘open door’ policy so colleagues can observe your lessons and meetings. To have the skill and flexibility to deliver outstanding lessons in new ways, in new settings and with new curriculum content; including collaborative teaching. To plan for outstanding lessons using schemes of work, to best support learners. To understand progression and be able to assess against benchmarks and on entry testing data. To be skilled at using data to plan learning and interventions for individual students and plan their individual learning plans. The Curriculum To develop, with SLT, a curriculum where students are excited and see the relevance and connections of their learning. To use debate and enquiry to further student understanding. With subject leads, use data to intervene where there is underachievement and enable the learners to make rapid progress. To enrich the curriculum with outside visits, speakers and a range of events to enhance learning opportunities. Leading a site To ensure that the schools safeguarding policy and expectations are adhered to on site. To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the satellite site. To support staff and students with behaviour management using Relational Restorative Practice. To ensure that health and safety expectations are fully adhered to on site. To be responsible for the upkeep and day-to-day maintenance of the site Leading Teaching and Learning To teach groups/individuals in KSSS. To be accountable for student performance. To employ effective monitoring and tracking systems to ensure all students are making rapid progress. To monitor the effectiveness of learning and teaching of in your area and be a reflective practitioner. To devise exciting learning-based projects with other staff. To keep up-to-date with the latest developments in education and research. To build partnerships with outside organisations to ensure that each student has opportunities to move forward with their lives. To ensure other subjects are integrated into rich learning experiences. Team-working and collaboration Participate in any relevant meetings and professional development opportunities that relate to the learners, curriculum or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements and assemblies etc. Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues and sharing the development of effective practice with them; share good practice with other organisations. Contribute to the professional development of other teachers and other staff, including the induction and assessment of new teachers and teachers serving induction periods; other staff undertaking professional development and other visitors who are working at school. Take part as required in the review, development and management of the school’s enriched curriculum. To attend team meetings and contribute to the strategic direction of the school. Cover for absent colleagues as required by the Head of School. Work with colleagues at break times and lunchtimes to enable students to have suitable social interaction with adults and with each other. Contribute to morning and afternoon briefings to support the work of the day; reflect on student progress and suggest suitable intervention strategies. Other Professional Requirements To comply with the KSSS’s Child Safeguarding Procedures and to report concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. To undertake annual Performance Management (PM) with a member of Senior Leadership Team; self-evaluate own professional abilities against the current DfE Teaching Standards as part of the PM cycle. Undertake training and up-date it annually for physical intervention strategies – Proact-uk SCIP. Follow KSSS and Federation and Staffordshire Local Authority policies of practice. To carry out other reasonable tasks from time to time as directed by the HoS/EHT. This job description is likely to evolve over time following consultation between the job holder and the Head of School. It forms part of the contract of employment for the person appointed to the post of Core Teacher/HTLA
