We are working on behalf of a leading environmental consultancy, renowned for its contributions to biodiversity and sustainability, to find a passionate expert to help shape the future of biodiversity net gain across a range of exciting projects.
About the Role:
As a Senior/Principal Terrestrial BNG Specialist, you will have the opportunity to lead nationally significant infrastructure projects, working on a variety of high-profile and award-winning initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in driving the implementation of nature-based solutions and BNG principles within the projects, helping clients work towards a nature-positive future. Your expertise will contribute to impactful projects that benefit both biodiversity and society at large.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead on large-scale infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders to deliver successful ecological outcomes.
* Conduct and oversee field surveys, interpreting and analyzing survey results.
* Design and coordinate ecological mitigation strategies.
* Author and review a wide range of ecological reports, including BNG assessments, management plans, and other ecological documents.
* Provide mentorship to junior staff, fostering development in BNG and ecology practices.
* Join a national network of BNG experts, contributing to the advancement of technical excellence and innovation.
* Manage work inquiries, assist in preparing bids, and help build strong client relationships.
* Contribute to the growth and development of the ecological portfolio in the Southern region, engaging with both internal and external clients.
What You Can Bring:
* Membership of CIEEM or equivalent, with chartership (CEcol or CEnv) preferred (AtkinsRéalis covers membership costs).
* A degree in ecology or a related field (desirable but not essential).
* Extensive project management experience, including technical, financial, and quality assurance aspects.
* Strong botanical skills (FISC level 4 or equivalent experience).
* In-depth knowledge of UK Habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, and the Defra Biodiversity Metric, with demonstrated experience in BNG assessments.
* Experience in writing technical reports, including BNG reporting, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs).
* Demonstrable experience on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and familiarity with the DCO process.
* Protected species survey licence(s) are advantageous.
* Full UK driving licence.
